Zcash prepares the Ironwood upgrade
Zcash is a well-known cryptocurrency that allows its users to send money completely privately, similarly to an opaque digital vault. However, on 28 July 2026, the network will undergo a major technical repair called Ironwood. Its goal is to close the old, damaged part of the system and move all users’ assets to a new, much safer location.
A problem that shook confidence and the price
In May of this year, developers discovered a serious security flaw in the system that was nicknamed the “infinite bug.” This defect in the code theoretically allowed a skilled attacker to secretly create counterfeit Zcash coins without anyone noticing. When the news became public in June, panic broke out among investors and the price of the currency fell by half, from the original 602 USD to less than 299 USD, although the situation has since calmed down and the value has returned to around 492 USD.
To stabilize the entire situation, independent experts carried out a thorough inspection of the whole system using advanced artificial intelligence and confirmed that there were no other hidden threats in the network. The entire development team was therefore able to focus fully on building the new digital environment. It is intended to permanently eliminate the old flaw and restore people’s confidence that their electronic money is beyond any danger.
A new digital vault and strict control
The upcoming network improvement works by permanently locking the old private zone, which experts call the Orchard pool, so that no one will be able to send any payments within it. A completely new, clean zone will be opened in its place. However, anyone who wants to transfer their old savings into the new secure space will have to pass their coins through a specially created accounting filter.
This filter will function like a strict customs inspection that immediately verifies whether the amount of transferred coins corresponds exactly to the official rules of the network. If someone had secretly created counterfeit coins in the past by exploiting the software flaw, the system would immediately detect them when they attempted to transfer them. If, on the other hand, the attacker tried to leave the illegal coins in the old locked system, this money would be forfeited and could never be used again, protecting all honest owners.
Historical milestone
For the Zcash cryptocurrency, this stress test comes at a time when more than 80 percent of all coins have already been created. Of the total planned number of 21 million, more than 16.8 million are already in circulation, making the event an important historical milestone. The project’s lead developer, Sean Bowe, confirmed that the rescue repair will be launched precisely on the morning of 28 July 2026, when the computers in the network reach a predetermined point.
The repair was originally scheduled to begin one week earlier, but the date was deliberately postponed to give online exchanges, digital wallets, and miners enough time to reconfigure their computer systems. Although there is currently no direct evidence that anyone exploited the flaw and actually created counterfeit coins, the definitive truth will only become clear during the major transfer of assets. For ordinary people, this event is crucial because, if successful, Zcash will once again regain its reputation as an impenetrable hiding place for private finances.
The End of Weekend Silence in Banking: Standard Chartered Brings Instant Settlement to Institutions
The more than 160-year-old banking institution has become the first bank-authorised distributor of HKDAP, a regulated stablecoin pegged to the Hong Kong dollar and backed by reserve assets. Its use is intended to enable continuous on-chain transaction settlement and reduce the timing mismatch between tokenised assets and traditional payment systems.
Will the Landmark CLARITY Act Crypto Bill Pass Despite Political Disputes?
The U.S. Senate is facing a decisive procedural vote on the CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), which is intended to deliver the most comprehensive reform of digital asset regulation in the United States to date. The bill successfully passed the House of Representatives in July 2025 and also secured support in a Senate committee in May 2026. However, the path toward its final approval remains complicated. Securing the required 60 votes in a divided Senate is being hindered by ethical disputes surrounding crypto-related income linked to the presidential office, concerns within the banking sector over stablecoins, and an exceptionally tight legislative calendar.
