Ripple Builds an Integrated Financial Ecosystem
Developments in October provide a clearer picture of Ripple’s business model. Final approval to establish a U.S. trust bank and a partnership with Robinhood bring together infrastructure for digital asset custody, management of the reserves backing the RLUSD stablecoin, and plans to make RLUSD available to Robinhood customers.
A Trust Bank Focused on Digital Assets and RLUSD Reserves
On October 26, 2026, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted final approval for the establishment of Ripple National Trust Bank. This is not a full-service commercial bank offering traditional retail banking services, such as accepting ordinary deposits or providing loans. Once operational, it will be authorized to provide fiduciary custody of digital assets, manage segregated reserves backing the RLUSD stablecoin, and act as a collateral trustee for the benefit of RLUSD holders. RLUSD will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). The approval follows the preliminary authorization granted in December 2025 and provides Ripple with a solid foundation for institutional asset management under federal oversight.
Direct Integration into Corporate Systems
A day later, on October 27, 2026, Ripple announced a strategic partnership with Robinhood. The collaboration goes well beyond simply adding another cryptocurrency to the platform. Robinhood will integrate Ripple Treasury into its internal operations, helping the brokerage manage corporate cash, forecast cash flows, and mitigate financial risks.
The relationship is also expanding through Ripple Prime, the company’s institutional division. Ripple Prime already provides lending and margin financing for approximately 20 assets on the Bitstamp exchange. In the third quarter of 2026, Bitstamp accounted for approximately 58% of the $50 billion in total cryptocurrency trading volume across the Robinhood ecosystem.
Competition for Dollar Balances and the Search for Yield
At the heart of this relationship is RLUSD, Ripple’s U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoin. RLUSD is already supported on Robinhood Chain and the Bitstamp exchange, with plans to make it available through Robinhood’s main retail app by the end of 2026. With a market capitalization of $2.5 billion, RLUSD currently accounts for only around 0.8% of the $300 billion global stablecoin market. As of October 22, 2026, its issuer reported a reserve coverage ratio of 106.1%, with reserves exceeding liabilities by $145.2 million.
On Robinhood itself, however, RLUSD faces competition from an existing offering. Since July 2026, the brokerage has also supported USDG, a token issued through the Global Dollar Network, and even uses it as the standard lending asset for its Robinhood Earn product.
Supporting multiple stablecoins makes clear economic sense for Robinhood. Its quarterly results show that revenue from cryptocurrency transactions fell 55% year over year to $120 million. Although the platform has 28.7 million funded customers, declining trading volumes may encourage it to explore further opportunities to optimize costs and diversify revenue, including the use of stablecoins for institutional settlement.
Conclusion
The developments in October demonstrate that Ripple is building an integrated financial infrastructure. Approval for the trust bank establishes a legal framework for reserve management, while the Robinhood partnership provides access to a vast customer base. However, with competing dollar-denominated assets also available on the platform, RLUSD’s actual market position will ultimately depend on whether customers choose to hold balances in the token and use it for everyday transactions.
